Singapore-based crypto payments startup Pundi X is gearing up to release a new blockchain-powered smartphone.
The device is called Blok on Blok (BOB) and will run on the company’s proprietary Function X blockchain, reports IFA International.
It’s designed to let users access decentralized apps and browse the internet without handing any personal data over to centralized service providers. The phone will also let users switch to a standard Android-based operating system when need be.
The phone is expected to be released this year, although a final launch date has not been set.
Samsung remains the most high-profile smartphone company to enter the cryptocurrency space.
Earlier this year the company released its Keystore app which allows users on the Galaxy line of smartphones to store private keys on the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains.
Keystore is currently available on the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, S10 5G, Note10 and Note10+ in the United States, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.
